Tussar silk weaving in Gopalpur is renowned for its deep connection to Odisha’s rich cultural history. The saree incorporates Bandha, a traditional tie-and-dye technique similar to ikat, where the warp threads are carefully tied and dyed before weaving, resulting in mesmerising patterns. Khandua weaving, with its origins in the 12th century, is closely associated with the Jagannath Temple rituals in Puri. The artisans of Nuapatna have mastered the skill of single ikat weaving, bringing to life intricate motifs of nature, such as flowers, conch, and swans, that have been passed down through generations.
